Central Penn Parent Magazine Writer’s Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in writing for Central Penn Parent.
A bit about us …
Established in 1996, Central Penn Parent is the award-winning go-to resource for parents and families in Central Pennsylvania. Central Penn Parent magazine is published 12 times a year by Journal Multimedia. We print 38,000 copies of the magazine and distribute them in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties. Our audited pass-along rate of 1.4 means that Central Penn Parent reaches more than 91,000 readers each month.
Who we are looking for …
Central Penn Parent relies on copy generated by professional, experienced journalists based in the communities that we cover. Local freelance journalists are given preference for assignments.
What we are looking for …
The editor assigns stories for each issue, but ideas/pitches are always considered. Pitches/queries from new writers should include a resume and 2-3 published clips.
We ask that all stories include a minimum of two local sources. We prefer a mix of experts and parents from different regions in our five-county market.
Central Penn Parent uses AP Style and all writers must be familiar with it.
Articles should be submitted as MS Word documents via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your name, address, e-mail and telephone number with all queries and submissions. The same should be included on any submitted attachments. All submitted copy must include clearly identified resources (names, phone numbers).
What we pay …
Pay varies by the level of detail required and/or word count of the assignment. Fees for original articles range from $50 to $125. Writers who work with us for an extended time and writers who work on unusually research-heavy pieces will be paid at the higher end of the scale. Our standard rate for reprints is $35.
Writers may be provided a writer’s agreement detailing the assignment and pay rate. The contracted rate includes the right for Central Penn Parent to reprint and archive said piece on www.centralpennparent.com.
