Plan a Trip to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary
October is the month for the greatest diversity of hawk and falcon species migrating through Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton. Last year, counters recorded an astonishing 25,156 hawks, eagles and falcons--the largest number of migrants in two decades.
Begin your visit at the Sanctuary Visitor Center. Plan to spend about 30 minutes browsing the educational displays so you can learn about raptors, their migration, and their special conservation needs. Check out the Wings of Wonder Gallery, featuring 19 life-sized wood carvings of each migrating raptor that pass the Sanctuary to get an idea of each bird's approximate size and shape.
Located along the Appalachian Flyway in east Central Pennsylvania, scenic Hawk Mountain Sanctuary offers visitors an outstanding, year-round nature experience with its mountaintop vistas, eight miles of hiking trails, and thrilling autumnal raptor migration.
