Im Trish Schaeffer. Im 31 years old and, over the years, continue to wear many hats. Im a Thirty-One consultant owning my own business; a peer supporter for Parent to Parent; a volunteer with the United Cerebral Palsy network, Special Olympics and the United Way; and an equine volunteer at Leg Up Farm.
Ive been happily married for nine years this August to my best friend and biggest supporter, Chris Schaeffer. We are parents to three boys. My oldest is 9 and my twins are 5.
It was five years ago that I was thrown into a terrifying and chaotic situation times two. The twins were born two months early and as a result, have medical and developmental issues, to say the least.
Here I was in a situation that I never saw coming. Life blindsided me. But what I learned and dealt with over the last five years I want to share.
I was lucky in a sense that I was familiar with special needs kids through volunteering in school, as well as on the medical sideI was in nursing school and studied for my MA and part of my LPN until my oldest was born.
I also worked as a pharmacy tech for a few years during nursing school, so I sort of had some idea or direction. But nothing truly prepares you for such an experience as the real thing.
I have always been about giving back and advocatingthats always been a passion of mine, to leave no rock unturned and no one behind. So, keep in mind as your read my blog, at no point am I an expert or always right!
I am still learning new things each and every day. My boys have opened my eyes to so much in this world, and every day is a new learning experience and a battle.
I am writing this blog in the hopes of helping and reaching out to anyone I can. I also am looking for new ideas and feedback, so please feel free to share! This is a judge-free zone. There is no wrong or right answer. Every week Ill talk on a different topic. I hope to be the voice of many and spread your ideas and tips as well. So, enjoy and share and spread the love !
With an open mind and an open heart,
To connect with Trish for ideas for future topics or just to give her a shoutout, email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
