Celebrate the Magic of Christmas Aboard the Strasburg Rail Road!

There’s nothing quite like the excitement of seeing Santa – whether it’s the first time or the 50th. Maybe it’s the suit, the twinkle in his eye, or the way he always seems to make our wishes come true. This year, celebrate the magic of Christmas like never before – at Strasburg Rail Road!

Kick-off the 2020 holiday season by creating memories aboard Strasburg Rail Road’s Christmas Trains – Santa’s Paradise Express, The Night Before Christmas Train, Santa’s Christmas Trolley, and The Christmas Tree Train – running November 21 through December 24.

Each weekend beginning November 21, families can travel down the tracks and enjoy a visit by Santa on the Santa’s Paradise Express. With a special gift for good boys and girls, Santa will greet each passenger in their seats and families will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with him. Mrs. Claus will also be available at the North Pole Annex from 12-4 pm to help finalize letters to Santa. Plus, Guests can enjoy storybook readings of holiday classics aboard a heated stationary Caboose.

On select Friday and Saturday evenings beginning December 4, the magic of Christmas Eve is recreated aboard The Night Before Christmas Train. Passengers can wear their pajamas and enjoy cookies and milk as they travel down the tracks. As the train travels, a reader dressed in a Victorian nightshirt and cap will read aloud the classic poem, The Night Before Christmas. At the station, visitors can also enjoy other storybook readings of holiday classics at the North Pole Annex.

Santa’s Christmas Trolley takes to the tracks beginning December 4. This exclusive ride aboard the historic LO&S Motorcar affords children and their grown-ups the opportunity to visit with Old St. Nick in a magical “sleigh” of a very different sort. During the 45-minute trip to Paradise and back, children 11 years and younger will be able to have their professional photo taken with Santa as they talk with him about what they are looking forward to this Christmas. Once back at the station, families will be able to pick up their keepsake 5X7 photos of their children with Santa. All this is included in your ticket price.

For that special Currier and Ives Christmas experience, take a ride aboard the Christmas Tree Train, running November 27-28 and December 4-5. Travel by authentic steam train to Leaman Place Grove where you can choose a pre-cut Frasier Fir tree and have it delivered back to the station. Once at Leaman Place Grove, passengers will have approximately one hour to choose and purchase that special Christmas tree. It’s then baled and loaded on a heritage freight car, while you enjoy complimentary hot cocoa, a roaring campfire, and the sound of Christmas carolers.

Getting the Most from Your Christmas Train Experience

While there’s no wrong way to enjoy the old-fashioned nostalgia of Christmas aboard a vintage steam train, we’ve compiled a few tips to make sure you get the most out of your experience.

Buy Tickets in Advance

To safely create holiday memories, all tickets must be pre-purchased. You can purchase your seats at StrasburgRailRoad.com.

Dress for the Weather

Some of the activities at the station are outdoors. So, make sure you bundle up in your holiday coats, scarves, and mittens to stay warm on chilly winter days and evenings. Aboard our trains, however, you’ll stay warm and toasty as each car is heated with a historic potbelly stove. In addition to your outdoor attire, please remember your mask for your safety and the safety of others. You can review our safety plan at StrasburgRailRoad.com.

Start (or finish!) Your Christmas Shopping

Bring your child’s Christmas Wish List along for your visit and stop by one of our Toy Store and souvenirs shops. There is something for everyone, helping you polish off your shopping. You’ll find an assortment of train-related gifts, books, classic toys, apparel, DVDs, and more. You’ll see popular brands like Disney and Mattel.

You can also give the gift of a steam train excursion by purchasing an e-Gift Card. This gift card can be used to purchase tickets in the future for any Strasburg Rail Road excursion train ride. E-Gift Cards have no expiration date.

Have a Plan for Meals and Snacks

Families can spend several hours enjoying the magic of Christmas at Strasburg Rail Road. Sometimes this makes people hungry!

The newly-opened Café 1832 offers freshly prepared food for quick snacks or a full meal. You can also ride aboard the Dining Car where you can order from our unique menu while riding the train. Just need a nibble? Stop at our Popcorn Wagon.

Plan Bathroom Breaks

Our trains feature meticulously-restored cars, but no bathrooms onboard. At the station, you’ll find beautifully restored and accessible rest areas for use before or after you ride the rails.

Wear Festive Outfits… or Your PJs!

While getting the full Christmas experience doesn’t have to include dressing in festive outfits, it sure is more fun when you do! Plus, children (ages 11 and younger) who ride Santa’s Christmas Trolley will be able to have their photos professionally taken while they sit with Santa as part of the ticket price. The complimentary keepsake photo will look even better if everyone is dressed for the occasion.

If you’re riding The Night Before Christmas Train, you’ll feel right at home wearing your pajamas as we read the childhood classic, The Night Before Christmas, as the train rolls along. Talk about being warm and cozy!

Be Ready to Capture the Memories

Capture magical Christmas memories by taking photos of you and your family sharing Christmas cookies, sipping hot cocoa, smiling with Santa, chatting with Mrs. Claus, or enjoying any of the holiday-themed activities we have planned.
