Everyone seems to have their own signature dish they take when visiting family or friends.
There are certain dishes that you can count on being there at every get together.
In my family, one dessert I always look forward to comes from my aunt. The recipe was passed down, but now it’s always her responsibility to prepare it.
The refrigerator “cake,” as it has become known in my family, carries more of an ice cream taste than cake when it is all complete. It’s a great treat to bring along to any gathering, or to just make at home for the kids. With just a little bit of prep work, you can throw it together and leave it in the fridge for after dinner.
And with Oreo cookies as the main ingredient, it’s the perfect dessert to make this month, with National Oreo Cookie Day on March 6.
1 Dip Oreos in milk to soften them slightly.
2 Place Oreos in a single layer in a 9×13 baking dish.
3 Spread on half the Cool Whip.
4 Repeat with Oreos and Cool Whip to form second layer.
5 Cover the top with chocolate syrup.
6 Refrigerate for 3 hours.
