Because Moms Can't Be Afraid to Tell it Like it is
Obviously ... NOT!
My son said something interesting to me today. He told me he likes fall, "but not because the leaves turn pretty colors and junk, but because I like to wear jackets."
I have to agree with him on this one. I like wearing jackets too—especially light waistcoats. So that got me wondering what else do I like that is entirely different than for the obvious reasons?
Here’s what I discovered:
Chinese food. Sure, the food is good, but what I really love are the fortune cookies. If not for these crunchy prognosticators of yummy goodness, I would probably never eat lo mein again.
Cartoons. While some of these animated programs are funny, the real reason I love them is because they distract my children long enough for me to get some work done without interruption. The only exception is Phineas and Ferb. That cartoon is pure comic genius!
Rain. Yes, precipitation is the most important cog in the wheel of our planet, yet what I adore about rain is that it gives me a reason to wear my Wellingtons. Nothing slaps a smile on my face faster than some cute rain boots.
Showering. This daily activity is a "must do," however my favorite part is the 12 minutes of solitude it affords me. Aaaaah silence, you are one elusive mistress!
Fruity cocktails. To be honest, I hate girly drinks, but hand me a concoction with umbrellas, swizzle sticks and sparklers blasting out of the top and I'll dance around. I'm a slave to the powers of “gift with purchase.”
The library. Oh, how I love to read! I also get giddy just looking at the thousands of books that line the shelves of this fine institution. Nevertheless, the best part of the library is walking in. It's that rush of superiority and elitist aura that surrounds me as I walk its hallowed halls. (And don't act like I'm the only one. I've been around other mothers: "Today Suzie and I went to THE LIBRARY." The library part is always emphasized and accompanied by a semi-snarky, look at me expression. You know the one.)
I'm sure I have a couple dozen more examples to offer, but I have to make dinner now. … I wonder what's on Cartoon Network?

I look forward to Mondays. Why you ask... because I get to read your blog.
