Ewww....Ringworm. What is it?

Just the term ringworm might give you the heebie-jeebies. What is it? It actually has nothing to do with worms at all, if it makes you feel any better. Ringworm is a fungus, and it’s highly contagious. It spreads when there is skin-to-skin contact with an individual or animal carrying it.

Parents Should Prevent Furniture Tip-Overs

More than 16,000 children 5 years old and younger were treated in emergency rooms because of injuries associated with TVs, furniture, and appliance tipovers according to CPSC staff's most recent estimates from 2006. Typically, injuries and deaths occur when children climb onto, fall against or pull themselves up on television stands, shelves, bookcases, dressers, desks, chests and appliances. In some cases, televisions placed on top of furniture will tip over and cause a child to suffer traumatic and sometimes fatal injuries. For prevention tips and more, click here.

Nanny McPhee Returns with a Big Bang

‘Nanny McPhee Returns’ is a great family film. The story, music and characters are all charming. It’s also an old-fashioned fairytale, complete with lots of magic and a happy ending.

The Switch Is Forgettable

‘The Switch’ is the sort of movie that’s fairly entertaining while you’re watching it, especially if you like any of these actors. Is it family fare? That depends on whether your sons or daughters like these types of romantic comedies, as well as the actors involved. The PG-13 rating is on target (though I think it’s better for kids 14 and older), mainly because of the subject matter.

Flipped Is a Must See

‘Flipped’ is a truly remarkable and simple film that gets right to the heart of human connections and emotions. It isn’t a typical film about friendship and first love. It’s about two people realizing that first impressions aren’t necessarily the be-all-end-all, that there’s more to someone than dreamy eyes or messy yards.

Alpha and Omega: Far From Family Friendly

‘Alpha and Omega’ is a good lesson in how NOT to make a family movie. It’s like the filmmakers sat around a table and brainstormed on every inappropriate scene and rude joke they could pack into 88 minutes. The animation isn’t bad, but even if you watched the movie with the sound off, it just wouldn’t be a great family film.
