Tales from a Mom-to-be
Who has it easier—men or women?
Bean Pole and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary on Monday and I can definitely say, while it was not what I had pictured, it was the best night of the year thus far!
I am notorious for making up all these grand schemes in my head that always play out so beautifully, but when the actual time comes, the plans never seem to work just how I had imagined.
If you would have asked me a year ago how I would have spent my one-year anniversary, I would have described eating a fantastic meal, drinking wine and being all types of gushy romantic with my amazing husband.
In reality, here’s how it went: We both got home from work by 4:15 p.m., put on our pajamas and spent the entire evening lounging on the couch, watching TV and playing silly games on our phones. We ordered pizza for dinner and were both in bed by 9 p.m.
Pretty exciting, huh? We even forgot to thaw our cake and eat it. (It’s thawing as I type and it will get eaten sometime this week.)
Being pregnant surely throws a curveball in things sometimes. My girlfriends are fairly understanding and know that it isn’t always fun to be the sober one at the parties, and will try to make other plans with me or do activities that don’t involve drinking.
The boys, on the other hand, don’t get it at all. They celebrate in the fact that they now have a designated driver and when you say something to them, the response is always, “Well, I didn’t make you get pregnant.”
Has anyone else ever wished that men could be the ones to carry children? Just for one day even, let them be the ones to have swollen feet, an aching back and have to wear pants that come halfway up your midsection?
I could go on and on, but I am sure some of you will agree that the men have it easy, besides having to deal with our mood swings. Bean Pole has been one lucky duck in my opinion. I haven’t been too terribly bad with my mood.
I would love to hear your experiences and challenges with anniversaries while pregnant or wishing a man could carry a child. Comment below!
