12/21/11Count the big and small blessingsWith Christmas less than a week away, I find myself looking back over the year and remembering all the things that I have to be grateful for. Christmas really is a special time to give thanks, not just for the obvious things—like foods that won't kill us—but for the thousands of fortunate moments and the multitude of blessings that we receive each year... |

12/15/11Watchout for Unexpected AllergiesTwo weeks before Christmas, if a person gets dressed up, it's usually for a party or dinner. I have this great plum-colored, glittery top that I wear to all my events, but on Tuesday, I found myself curling my hair and putting on a black dress and sweater so that I could attend the funeral of a friend of mine who passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly over the weekend. Her death reminded me that, while we think about food allergies, we don't often think about potentially deadly drug allergies... |

12/07/11Don't freak - It's just a little wheat“Our” waiter was off this past week, so I politely went through the drill with the new guy about my allergies. Oh, and the menu had changed. No biggie. It would just take a few minutes longer to find something to eat. That's all. I finally settled on some soup that the waiter assured me was free of the ingredients that could kill me...
