Rivals set to meet in district semifinals
Archrivals Cumberland Valley and Carlisle are set to battle again, this time with a chance in the District 3-AAA boys soccer championship game on the line.
The Eagles topped Conestoga Valley Saturday to advance as the Thundering Herd, the No.19 seed, edged Lower Dauphin. CV and Carlisle split their season series.
The winner of their game will face the winner of Wilson and Hempfield in the championship game Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium.
In the Class A tournament, Trinity topped Fairfield Saturday to earn a semifinal berth against Biglerville, winner over York Catholic. On the other side of the bracket, Lancaster Country Day upset No. 2 Covenant Christian, and Greenwood beat High Point Baptist to set up their semifinal matchup.
Girls’ soccer
Top-seeded Trinity beat Boiling Springs to set up a battle in the District 3-AA girls’ soccer semifinals with Wyomissing, which beat Lancaster Mennonite in overtime. Northern beat Palmyra on penalty kicks to earn a berth in the final four against Brandywine Heights, which beat ELCO in double overtime.
Girls’ volleyball
All six opening round matches in the District 3-AA girls’ volleyball tournament were won by sweep Saturday.
West Perry, Palmyra, Eastern York, Brandywine Heights, Trinity and Berks Catholic each advanced to the quarterfinals by way of sweep.
