Yes, ice can be harvested

Jul 27, 2012 - 07:00 AM

Families looking to beat the heat this summer have a new, frosty option.

Sculpted Ice Works, which has carved and designed ice displays for more than a decade, opened the Sculpted Ice Works Factory Tour & Ice Harvest Museum earlier this month in Lakeville.

The factory and museum are located on Route 590 between Hamlin and Hawley in the Poconos.

The tour includes a demonstration of how crystal blocks of ice are harvested and sculpted into shapes with chainsaws.

At the museum, visitors can learn about how the ice is “made” before it’s stored.

The museum and tour is open during the summer from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults; children under 3 are admitted for free.
