Dating dangers not being addressed in schools
While dating violence has been identified as a significant problem for teens in the U.S., a recent study by the American Academy of Pediatrics has found that less than 20 percent of schools have programs in place to address dating violence.
The study showed 61 percent of school counselors who participated in the study had encountered at least one instance of dating violence during the past two years, but only 1 in 10 counselors referred those students to seek further medical attention or contact protection agencies.
The study authors noted that guidance counselors who received training regarding dating violence, were far more likely to assist students affected by dating violence.
