Tiny Test-Dummies Take the Impact
If children are riding in cars, why wouldn’t we, “measure the risks of injury to a child?” asked the NHTSA upon the recent release of their newest Crash Test Dummy. The new test dummy is modeled after a 10-year-old child, featuring accurate height to weight ratios, and is expected to provide a variety of new useful information such as, “never-before-available information capturing the risk of injuries using head and knee excursions, as well as chest acceleration.”
This new addition to the current test dummy lineup, comes after the recent implementation of stricter car seat recommendations. David Strickland, a NHTSA Administrator, explains that the new seat “will enable the agency to gather the best data yet on the performance of higher-weight child seats.” The agency plans to continue improvements to the new test dummy, to ensure that their guideline continue to keep kids as safe as possible.
