A good excuse for a night out

Aug 7, 2012 - 08:01 AM

Need a parents’ night out? Enjoy gourmet food? Want to support a local cause?

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region has your solution: Destination Downtown.

Destination Downtown is a four-course progressive dinner with proceeds benefiting the organization. The annual event takes diners to four locations throughout Harrisburg for a fancy menu and night filled with fun beginning at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

“It’s something different,” said Asheleigh Forsburg, special events director of Big Brothers Big Sisters. “The food and the drinks that are paired with the food is something you can only experience at our event. And you’re doing something good for the community.”

The dinner begins with hors d’oeuvres, followed by soup shooters and salad in lettuce cups. The entrée will be served at the Hilton and features rotisserie porchetta with broccoli rabe and mashed potatoes. The final destination offers assorted desserts and champagne.

All destinations are within two blocks of each other, but Harrisburg bike taxi will be available for anyone who needs assistance.

Destination Downtown will also feature raffles for things ranging from brunch for two at the Hilton to a $100 gift card to Stocks on Second, Stocks Manor or Carley’s Ristorante and Piano Bar. Diners can also enjoy mingling and networking, Forsburg said.

Tickets are $90 per person or $150 for two and must be ordered by Friday, Aug. 10. Space is limited. Tickets may be purchased online at www.capbigs.org or by calling 717-236-0199.
